The Full Story
About Me
My name is KatiJean and I was diagnosed with PPMS (Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis) in 2016. I am more fortunate than some in that I was diagnosed later in life and had already lived a full and exciting life. I am determined that this dreaded disease will not destroy me, though it may slow me down. I am learning to navigate life’s new challenges with determination. No one, especially MS, tells me what I can’t do!
When I was first diagnosed in 2016, I had mobility issues, but was still able to get around independently. In 2018 I had a life-altering accident that tested my resilience. Due to the loss of sensation in my legs and feet, I experienced a fall that resulted in a broken left kneecap and a fractured right ankle. This unfortunate incident forced me to make difficult adjustments and reevaluate my daily routines and ability to live independently.
I had to leave my job due to my physical limitations. I embarked on a new journey, navigating life with a disability and the need to use a wheelchair to maintain mobility. Initially, I could manage walking short distances with the help of my husband, or one of my children, however, after my accident in 2018, I had to adapt to my new reality of relying on a wheelchair for all distances outside my home.
Despite the challenges I face on a daily basis, I am determined to lead a fulfilling life full of adventure. If there is an advantage to getting MS later in life, it is that I know what I am missing as a disabled person. I look at everything I do with a new viewpoint and I am steadfast in finding innovative ways to make life easier for wheelchair users. Whether it's discovering new accessibility solutions, learning about assistive technologies, or learning how to navigate a new travel destination, I am always eager to explore new possibilities and share my insights with others in similar situations.
*****Now I've started a new journey! I'm taking my passion and experience and using it to help others achieve their dream! I have started a travel agency and am here to help plan and book any vacation you may need! ( we all NEED them!) Message me!
Mission
Through my personal experiences I have gained a unique perspective on the challenges faced by individuals with physical disabilities. This has fueled my desire to not only improve my own life, but also contribute to a more inclusive and accessible world for all.
Vision
I will not allow my disability to dictate my life. My passion in life has always been traveling, and that is not going to change. I cherish the simple joys of riding through the mountains, watching the sunrise over the ocean, and experiencing the sights and sound of Broadway or some other far away or exotic destination. I will continue to embrace new experiences whenever possible. I hope my resilience, determination, and unwavering spirit will serve as an inspiration to others, showing that strength and happiness can thrive despite the most difficult circumstances.
